It all began in the 1940s, when Count Paolo Marzotto was a child and asked his mother to buy him a bottle of wine during their trip to Sicily.
What might have passed for a whim turned out, over time, to be a great passion and a deep love for a mountainous terrain dedicated to the art of sustainable viticulture respecting the environment and the entire community living there.
Years of investments, studies and innovations followed: ambitious projects driven by the strong values shared by an entire family.
Today, in fact, the legacy of this extraordinary project has been inherited by the grandson of Count Marzotto: Grégoire Desforgers.

It all began in the 1940s, when Count Paolo Marzotto was a child and asked his mother to buy him a bottle of wine during their trip to Sicily.

THE PEOPLE OF BAGLIO DI PIANETTO

Grégoire Desforgers

Born in Paris in 1989, he is the third generation of the Marzotto family at the helm of Baglio di Pianetto. Grandson of the founders Florence and Paolo Marzotto, Grégoire, who has always been interested in the food & beverage and hospitality sectors, inherited from his grandfather a deep passion for a Sicily yet to be discovered.

Born in 1967, Dante Bonacina boasts thirty years of experience in the world of wine. An enterprising personality, inquisitive soul and strong values have led him to become an authoritative voice and actor in the Wine & Food world. As the CEO of Baglio di Pianetto since 2023, he joins Grégoire Desforges at the helm of the winery, implementing the new company strategy.

Graziana Grassini
“I immediately liked the Baglio di Pianetto project. The oenological objective will be to enhance this heritage through the In Purezza and Viafrancia lines.”

She is among the first female winemakers in Italy and is considered one of the most influential personalities on the international wine scene. In February 2024, Graziana joined the winemaking team of Baglio di Pianetto with the aim of reinterpreting the Sicilian winemaking tradition, focusing on an area characterized by an altitude of 700 meters above sea level and capable of expressing the authentic identity of the local vines.

He has dedicated 20 years – practically half his life - to Baglio di Pianetto. At just 42 years old, he is the longest-serving winemaker of the winery, of which he shares its values and objectives. Today, all his efforts are aimed at refining the In Purezza line in close collaboration with Graziana Grassini to achieve a production capable of celebrating the land of Sicily.

“With the new course, our wines will be identified much more by the single variety, summarizing the terroir of Baglio di Pianetto in all of its facets.”

Born in Piana degli Albanesi, just 4 km from Baglio di Pianetto, Francesco Matesi - Baglio's winemaker since 2018 - feels at home. After earning a degree in Oenology and Viticulture, he studied in Italy and Europe. A double degree and the qualification as an agronomist accompany the curriculum of this attentive and inquisitive professional who has always appreciated a well-defined vision of Baglio di Pianetto that has always been true to itself.
