BARONI ESTATE

VAL DI NOTO, AN ANCIENT AND PRECIOUS VITICULTURAL HISTORY

Close to the town of Noto and to the sea, the estate Baroni, which falls within the municipality of Pachino, is a land wedded to viticulture by a thousand-year long history. With the exception of Syrah, which has found a special home here on the island, Contrada Baroni is dedicated exclusively to native varieties. It is here that Count Paolo Marzotto decided to grow the finest of Sicilian grapes, Nero d’Avola, and use it to produce one of his favourite and most accomplished wines. It is also where Ra'is Essenza is produced, a sweet passito obtained from Muscat grapes, every sip as delectable as the baroque architecture Noto is famous for.

The Terroir

In this corner of Sicily rainfall is infrequent and occurs predominantly in the winter. The mild temperatures – both in winter and in summer – protect the regularity of the plant’s production cycle, which consistently produces abundant harvests. In the daytime, the sun heats up the soil, the heat is subsequently released at night and mitigated by the cool sea breeze. The soil is varied in composition, slightly inclined and mostly lean.
